Cars and the front of the Holden dealership showroom on Newcastle Street in West Perth were damaged by fire when the blaze started about 2.10am.
David Christison, AHG
corporate affairs manager, said four cars had been damaged.
“Two high end HSV sport
cars are destroyed, a GTS and a Club Sport R8, and two Club Sport sedans that
have been damaged, one quite seriously and there’s also damage to the fascia
and front doors of the building which is being assessed now,” he said.
“We suspect the total
damage bill is going to be somewhere in the vicinity of $500,000.”
Mr Christison said it was
not yet known “why the dealership was targeted and it was a neighbour who
raised the alarm.
Police are now looking at
the business’ CCTV footage.
Despite the fire, the
dealership will still be open to customers.
“It’s messy, it’s
certainly messy, but trading is resuming as we speak and it will be trading as
normal,” Mr Christison said. “And depending what the insurance assessors say, there could be a couple of really good bargains there today.”
SALON FIRE
About 1.15am fire fighters were also called to a
fire at a hairdressing salon on the corners of Crimea Street and Morley Drive
in Morley.
The building received fire and smoke damage.
Both properties remain under police guard and will
be assessed by the Arson Squad.
Anyone with information on the fires is asked to
phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
